I love when the Breitenbush River

flows powerfully with lots of water

A White Winter Solstice

Breitenbush got it's first snow last night to

give us a little magic on the Winter Solstice

New Changing Station

A new changing station was recently built for the
far meadow pool. It is much bigger than the old one
and in a new location over the path. Consequently
it has been controversial. Also a large roof
was built over the bench along the path.

 

Replacing Well Casing

We have to replace the casing of the well by the sauna

and the heat exchanger that is within the well.

We brought in an outside company for this big job.

Tiny Frog

I spotted a very small frog that

jumped in the river by the bridge

Hall's Ridge

All of Breitenbush's phone and internet communications

must travel through air and some repeaters before

connecting to land lines. One of the repeaters is on Hall's

Ridge which we share with other companies in the area.

Salman Spawning

Salmon were released into the river again

this year by the Oregon Fish and Wildlife

Dept. and they were visible from the bridge

Grouse in the Woods

Today I saw a group of five grouse

A Good Rain

We got a fair amount of rain last night which

will reduce the dust on our roads but more

importantly reduce the risk of fires around us

Smoke Didn't Last

Yesterday was our first day

of smoky air this summer

 Fortunately canyon winds

cleared the air this morning

Horsetail "Forest"

I don't ever remember the housetails

near my cabin growing as thick or as

tall (almost 4 1/2 feet) as this year.

Emerald Forest Loop Trail

I hiked the loop trail for the first time since the fire

evacuation last Sept. The Forest Service had prepared

for a back burn by cutting many trees along the trail. Fortunately the back burn wasn't needed but the

trail now has odd areas of lots of cut tree trunks.

The woods around Breitenbush

are dominated by the color green

New Bridge

A new bridge over the south fork of the Breitenbush River

will be completed this week so guests can once again
hike the main loop trail. Thanks to many volunteers.

Buildings come and go

A staff housing building next to cabin F6 

was demolished by the backhoe last week
